Dialectic Method Greek was designed by T.C. Griswold, a University of Oxford alumnus and applied linguist. It draws on established principles from second-language acquisition research.

Principles

  • Output and interaction — producing extended spoken language, and negotiating meaning with a partner, pushes learners to notice gaps in their own grammar and vocabulary.
  • Zone of proximal development — tasks are pitched just beyond current ability, with support that is withdrawn as competence grows.
  • Dialogue as thinking — the Socratic tradition of question, objection and refinement gives each conversation a clear structure and purpose.
  • Recognised frameworks — feedback is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
